San Andreas by Brad Peyton

San Andreas is one of my favorite movies. The movie is about an earthquake along the San Andreas fault line in California, which is intriguing as there is a possibility of the events in the movie happening in real life. The hero, Ray, is played by Dwayne Johnson, so I was a little worried it wouldn’t be a strong performance because he isn’t who I would think of as a serious actor. However, he proved me wrong with his surprisingly good and emotional performance. The CGI is very realistic and scary as it shows real life landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge collapsing. With a tsunami added on top of this, the destruction gets even worse and creates fear of how much destruction it would cause in real life. In this mess, Ray and his soon-to-be ex-wife search for their daughter, Blake, as the city crumbles around them. As the family finds their way back to each other and the love interest is introduced, the plot becomes more predictable. It becomes clear that everything will work out which makes it slightly less interesting to watch. Although we know she will be fine, towards the end there is a scene where Blake is about to drown and seems to be giving up on trying to save herself. Ray manages to use all the strength he has to save his daughter and the family is finally safe and together again. This scene was very emotional and heartfelt to watch. The ending is a typical family reunion, with a new love interest added into the mix. Overall, San Andreas is a good movie that is definitely worth watching.
