I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

Review by Tanusha Poreddy, 12

“I am Malala” offers a deep and insightful look into the life of Malala Yousafzai- a Nobel Peace prize winner and an inspiration to many young women. Malala’s memoir allows her to reflect on her past and her experience getting shot in the head by the Taliban. Malala spent much of her life advocating against the Taliban, and in return, they attempted to silence her. They failed, because Malala went on to become a Nobel Peace prize winner and an international sensation. Malala’s reflection on her life inspires other women to step back and comprehend what their contribution to their society is. “I am Malala” is written beautifully and highlights Malala’s struggles while also portraying her legacy in a positive light. The memoir encourages readers to take a stand and fight for what they believe in. Malala’s story inspired me to never take advantage of the education I have received and it continues to inspire me to support the things I believe in. “Reflection” is a very important concept, especially after the time we have spent isolated during the past year. The idea of reflecting on your life is dire to helping a person become the best version of themselves. Malala reflected on her life in order to become an international inspiration, and others can do the same. Her memoir left a lasting impression on me, and I believe it will do the same for anyone who reads it!
